Canadian trademark overreach

I wonder what it is about Canadian copyright law? First the Canadian Red Cross pressures video games to not mark health items with red crosses. Now the Canadian mint is claiming exclusive use of the word "cent".

In the US, I could easily show prior art showing they didn't invent the word, and that many other countries use it, and the Canadian government has no claim on the word. But I'm not a Canadian lawyer, so who am I to know what can or can't be proven?
