Hope for the Future

So, the number of women in computer careers is dropping. It turns out that's because they see computers as a tool for all careers. This is good news, I think.

All the teachers who are afraid of technology will retire, and future generations will have teachers who understand how computers can be used. Everywhere you go, workers will be familiar with technology, and work will proceed apace. (Computers aren't perfect; good teachers will use them when appropriate, and use other tools when computers would be stupid.)

Although, I wish more women would go into computer engineering. Computers are hard to use, partly because they're designed solely by geeky men. If ungeeky women could be involved, and bring more points of view and perspective to computer design, they'd make more sense to more people.
